Default Why does every mineral foundation/powder containing SPF looks sooo "ASHY"?

I've been wanting to use mineral foundation/powder but they always seem to give me an ashy look. The ones sitting on my makeup bag contain spf. Is it the SPF causing the ashy look do to it being natural sun blockers instead of chemical based? I haven't tried any without the SPF. Any suggestions?
