I buy the eyeshadow that has the 3 different shades, a dark, light and a highlighter. One person told me to put the light on the eyelid, the dark on the browbone and the highlighter under the brow and in the corner of the eye. She's an esthetician so I thought she knew what she was talking about.

But everytime I see someone who's eyes look really good (including people on tv who are done up by professionals), they always have the dark colour all over their lids and it looks much better than this weird 2-tone thing I've been trying. I have really small, slanty eyes for a white girl and want to make them stand out.

Here's How:
Before you start, dust eyelid with a dampened brush and a little face powder. This will help to prevent your shadow from melting.
Choose three shades in the same color family - light, medium and a darker shade for contrast
Apply the lightest shade on the entire lid from brow to lash line.
The medium shade is going to bring out the color of your eyes. Apply from lash line to just above the crease.
The darkest color is going to be applied close to the lashes. Dampen the brush and then pick up a little color. Smudge it in around the lash base. If you have bags beneath your eyes, you might want to only line the top lashes.

A wonderful eye shadow tip for women who want to make their eyes appear closer is to emphasize the inner corners of the eyes. A light eye shadow over the entire eyelid followed by a medium color on the inner half of the eyelid can create a pleasing effect. Remember always to blend for a natural finish. Light shades make the eyes appear bigger. Sweep a light eye shadow over the lid and shade the outer corners of the lid with a darker shade. This should make your eyes appear larger.
