Default Do you think I can pull off bright red lipstick (like Marilyn Monroe)?

I've seen a lot of celebrities wearing bright red lipstick (Marilyn, Madonna, Gwen Stefani, ect.) and it looks good on them, but they all have pale skin and platinum blonde hair. I have dark hair and tawny/tan skin and full lips. Do you think I can pull it off?

I think you can. Anyone can pull off red. the trick is to make it fit your skin tone. Everyone regardless of race, is either cool, warm or neutral. If the veins in your wrists are blue, you're cool. if they're green you're warm and if they're blue green, you're a neutral.

Now That being said, blues/cools can't really pull off oranges and yellow based colours. So tomato red lipstick won't work for you. You'd be better with a bluish, berry red. Similarly if you're warm, stay away from the blue based reds and choose a firey, warm-toned red instead.

If you're neutral, you can wear any shade usually.

The trick isn't whether or not you can wear red... most people can find a shade that looks great on them. The trick is to know your skin tone and work from there.

Yes, you can definitely pull off red lipstick, but you will need to find a red that will suit your skintone. Off hand, I would think that you would want a red that is highly pigmented and that is a deeper and darker red. I think that Russian Red from MAC is flattering on all skintones, but I;ve also heard that an Orangey-red is more flattering on darker skintones. There are also berry/bluish reds which are supposed to flatter lighter skintones, but you may be able to pull that off as well. You will need to go to a makeup counter and try on some colors and see which ones suit your complexion the best.

Here are some darker skinned celebs who wear red lipstick very well:

Without seeing a picture of you, it's very hard to tell. But I'll tell you this, you can pull off whatever you really want to pull off. As girls, we're allowed to play with makeup. So why not get a few shades you wouldn't dare to wear and try them on? You can't be surprised at how out of your "comfort zone" you can go until you try.

A deep, rich glossy red on tawny/tan skin with full lips will only make them more luscious. If you like a color but think it's too light, try lining your lips with a darker color then filling in with the lighter shade. Almost anyone can wear bright red, if they pull it off with the right accessories and balance it with the rest of your makeup.

The bottom line? Go to the makeup counters and play until you find something you like. Remember, YOU have to like it and then you can pull it off!

This is really bizarre because i have been thinking about it lately myself. i also have dark brown hair and a tan. Well, i actually tried it, and surprisingly enough, i thought it looked great. My one suggestion to you is to do it when you are wearing a black or a white shirt , thats when it looks the best!
