Soap and water doesn't work.
Products from the supermarket like Neutrogena and Clean & Clear are basically soap and water, despite all the advertising and hype.
They also contain harsh chemicals. When I used Clean & Clear, my face would turn red directly after application.
I would also discourage anti-bacterial soap.
You don't ever kill 100% of the germs and the dead germs are left behind in your skin. When new germs come, the new germ can pick up information about the dead germ through transformation. With that information, the new germs become resistant to the antibacterial soap.
I've never used St. Ives before, though. But I wouldn't scrub your face too hard with all the exfoliating peach pit bits in there because that irritates the skin. You're supposed to gently massage your face in small circular motions, according to my Mary Kay consultant lady.
I use Velocity facial cleanser and moisturizer from Mary Kay, which is gentler on skin and efficient in clearing up pimples.
And my skin is also combination.
Basically, moisturizing your skin daily is the most important part in caring for your skin. Overdrying can cause you to break out more because your body will produce more oils to compensate for the dry skin.
Also try to use a moisturizer or foundation with an SPF of 15 or higher to fight sun damage.
