Default Can you get product build up on hair if you only use shampoo and conditioner?

My hairdresser said that I have product build up on my hair from using a popular shampoo and conditioner due to the silicone in it. Can This be true? Or is he trying to sell me products from the shop?
I am using tresemme

Yes all the fake plastics in it build up.

Buy a 99 cent bottle of suave clarifying shampoo, and every week wash your hair with it.

switch up your shampoo twice a week. Even if its a .99 cent shampoo, the change does your hair good.

If I use the same shampoo/conditioner on a weekly basis, my hair gets nasty and greasy. Switching twice a week ended that.

I have often heard that you should change shampoos and conditioners every so often. Not that you have to buy salon products just switch to different kinds.

its 100% possible! i had product build up too from using the same shampoo ALOT and no matter how many times i washed my hair it still looked greasy, so frustrating. then i went to a hairddresser too, who told me what i had. finally, someone who knew what he was talking about! i thought, he told me to get a clarifying shampoo, and i also thought he was trying to flog me a product, but its true, product build up is possible

get pantene pro v clarifying shampoo and see the difference after you use it,

I suppose some shampoo and conditioner could leave your hair with build up. I guess it would depend on what kind you use. Maybe if you try switching and see if she says the same thing, if she does, then shes just trying to sell you something. If not , then she will notice the improvement.

Product buildup , i thought, was from use of products like hair spray and hair gel. I guess i never looked at shampoo and conditioner as a hair product, i always looked at it as a cleaner lol I could be wrong...*waits for hair dresser to answer this question*

yes this is true but if you use a shampoo and condition medicated for your hair e. g ( normal, greasy, dry), this can reduce build up and if you use a salon brand like redken or fudge no build up will occur as they are much better for your hair. So yes your hairdresser will want you to buy his salon brands of shampoo and conditioner but it is better for your hair! Hope this helped!
