Default Is it ok to use baby shampoo on kittens??

I have 2 kittens (about45 days old) I had them for a week so far and haven’t bought them shampoo yet so I was wondering if I can use baby shampoo instead.
If its ok ,I would also like 2 know how often should they bathe and how can I bathe them

yes this is fine but don't use it regularly as it will dry out thier skin, same as using human shampoos, pets have natural oils in thier skin & shampooing them too much defies them of this

I'm not sure it's a good idea to give a cat a bath unless they have something in their fur they can't get out themselves. Cats are very good, even at that young of an age, at cleaning themselves. They don't need a bath--in fact, it could make them ill if you do it to often. The only time I ever gave my cat a bath was when she got into some honey =). Anyway, baby shampoo is made to be gentle, so it shouldn't hurt them in anyway...but I would still just let them do their own thing as far as cleanliness is concerned.

Absolutely not. Use a pet shampoo only safe for kittens. Cats especially are sensitive to shampoos. You could easily kill the kittens by using a shampoo designated for humans and or a shampoo not recommended for kittens.

I wouldn't bathe the kittens unless it is absolutely necessary -- for instance if they had diarrhea or got into something. If you use baby shampoo it will be too drying for the kittens and they may get skin problems. You can get a shampoo designed for cats, but I'd thin it down with at least 50 percent water. Comb them before you shampoo to remove any loose fur, which will only mat when wet. When you've rinsed them, and you think you have all the shampoo out, rinse again. (I wash my show cat in the kitchen sink). Then have big towels ready to dry them, or use a hair dryer on low if it doesn't freak them.

They should be able to bathe themselves so you may never have to do it again. Some cats are very clean about themselves and some a slobs.

Cats don't like water. Avoid bathing them unless it is absolutely necessary. Don't forget that they do clean themselves on a daily basis. I would clean their paws if they go out in the garden and their bottom if they haven't done it the 'right way' (which is rare).
Another thing you can do is wet your hand and just run it across their back to get the extra hairs and maybe dust from the surroundings. But do trust your cats to be pristine, it's their nature.
If you do decide to bathe them be prepared to bleed a bit or a lot, depending on the cat..

Good luck!

You should never need to bathe your kittens. Cats are extremely good at keeping themselves clean. I have six. They all keep themselves really clean. One of them even likes to go and roll around in the garden bed but she's always clean within an hour of getting out of it. Even kittens which haven't been taught really well will have a natural instinct to clean themselves. Never discourage their cleaning. I would suggest, unless your kittens start to smell funky, just get yourself a soft kitten brush and have a routine of giving them a brush once every couple of days. You really wont need to give them a bath.

We bathe cats/kittens at the animal hospital I work at all the time. But only if they have flea infestations. Alot of fleas can kill a kitten before everyone starts griping because I bathe kittens. Baby shampoo is safe for kittens, but before you go out and buy it, buy some cat shampoo instead. Some ingredients in baby shampoos may cause allergic reactions and can cause a fat vet bill bigger than than the cost of a bottle of cat shampoo. Why take unnecessary risks? Cats bathe themselves and do not require baths but some people are strange and think they need baths like dogs. They don't. A shampoo designed specially for cats (or ferrets even) is ideal. Baby shampoo will not harm the cat/kittens but like someone said earlier, formulated for infants. Use cat shampoos for cats, dog shampoo for dogs, baby shampoo for babies. Cats are like people and have their own individuality and may like baths. I never bathe my cats they do that themselves. All i have to do is turn on the shower and they both are in it before the water even gets hot. I don't use shampoo though, just water. If they absolutely HAVE to have a bath just use plain water and a fine tooth comb to comb out foriegn matter like poop, dirt, or other such things. 1 last thing you should remember though, cats do NOT need baths unless they are covered in fleas or poop. If you cannot remember that, get a dog instead. Wait until the next time you take them in for their booster vaccines and get a tech there to show you how to do it safely. Remember though those booster shots are FAR more important than any bath.
