do any of you use shampoo too? or is it not recommended

Don't use shampoo til at least a day later because some of the pigment may be washed out.
Just make sure you wash the color out thoroughly! Then use the conditioner supplied with the dye and leave on as long as it says, then rinse that out well and you're done. :-)
