Hair changing from light to horribly dark and dull from shampoo?

I used to have really nice amber hair with many highlights, until i went to the salon and got it layered and also got some bangs. My friends, mom, and teachers noticed it was much darker, and now i'm wondering if it was the shampoo the stylist used? I'm so scared my hair will be damaged from the coloring if she did. Is there anyway to get my original hair color back??!
