does anyonw know why the casting crew of "Hairspray" chose John Travolta
to be Edna Turnblad? I absolutly LOVED Hairspray the movie and I thought that any old Actress could have played Edna.....but why was it John Travolta?? I loved what he did to the character and I thought he did a fabulous job but why??? Did they like his dancing? Was it supossed to be a joke? Was it ment to be an "all-star cast"? Does anyone know why?
Well in the original Hairspray movie, Edna Turbald was played by a drag queen, so when they adapted Hairspray to be a musical, they kept it so that Edna was played by a man in drag. It's just the way the character is played.
