Default How do I use defining pomade?

I just got my hair cut in long subtle layers and someone told me that I should go and buy texturizing pomade, so I went out and baught some but I'm puzzled as to how I should use it because I tried to put some in my hair but it made it greezy. Any tips on how to use it? or some things that I can do to make my layers look better?
