Pomades are commonly used on short hair styles to help lay the hair down and keep it in place. Although it is tradition to use grease on African American hair, scalp conditioners are more effective.

It has been discovered that grease may clog your hair follicles and prevent hair growth. I recommend Revlon's Vitapoint. It leaves your hair silky smooth and wont weigh it down. It's a bit pricey, but its the only thing I've seen that will actually promote hair growth.

Good luck!

It shouldn't affect growth at all, as it takes place in the roots.
