no matter what you do iron is just not that great for your hair. Be careful, and pay closer attention to your hair follicales. well i mean your hair roots. Its not so likely that you will miss your hair so bad. but yes it can happen really bad. And you may endup really hating your hair, from reduced hair growth or some other kind of effect
well good luck
i just want to tell you to watch out k , its good to look nice, just be a little extra careful

yes, you are drying out your hair. Try using a straightener (either from the store or at a hair salon). It will last longer and is easier on your hair.

heat is really bad for your hair. you should actually stay out of the sun. If you need to iron then you should try some protective shampoo and conditioners and that can actually protect the hair from heat and carbon dioxide and lessen the damage.

Haha I have "retarded curly hair," as well and the only way I can get it to look like I haven't just rolled out of bed is to use a straightening iron. I've been using one for about three years (not EVERY single day, stopped using it for a couple of months and let it go natural), but my hair has definitely seen better days. My ends are an absolute mess, even after I cut them and there is one section of my hair that will never look good or straight or not frizzy no matter what I do - guessing it's all from the iron.

Try to work with what you've got. I'm sure your curly hair is beautiful, you just need to know how to let it looks its best. There are lots of products out there for curly hair. But, if you decided to keep using the iron, before you use it, spray your hair with something called "Soya Want Flat Hair?" You can get it at salons, and what not.

you should probably use more syrum than that. ironing your hair damages it, like everyone else said, but you can repair it if you use the right stuff.

i found this recipe for a treatment to put on your hair:

Hot Oil Hair Treatment

21 min 1 min prep
Change to: treatment US Metric
4 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons honey
2-3 drops essential oils

Put honey, oil and essential oil in a plastic bag.
Twist but don't tie.
Pour boiling water in a mug.
Add plastic bag to mug until it warms up.
Apply gently to wet hair.
Don't pour it on your head, put the mixture on your hands and apply to all of your hair.
Wrap up your hair with a showercap, a towel or cling wrap.
Jump in the bath or shower.
Wait twenty minutes, then rinse and wash hair normally.

hope it all works out!

If you use a high quality iron, like a Chi or a T3 Tourmaline, you should be fine.
