Haha I have "retarded curly hair," as well and the only way I can get it to look like I haven't just rolled out of bed is to use a straightening iron. I've been using one for about three years (not EVERY single day, stopped using it for a couple of months and let it go natural), but my hair has definitely seen better days. My ends are an absolute mess, even after I cut them and there is one section of my hair that will never look good or straight or not frizzy no matter what I do - guessing it's all from the iron.
Try to work with what you've got. I'm sure your curly hair is beautiful, you just need to know how to let it looks its best. There are lots of products out there for curly hair. But, if you decided to keep using the iron, before you use it, spray your hair with something called "Soya Want Flat Hair?" You can get it at salons, and what not.
