I have a few friends who use straightening irons on their hair and it looks much better than when they don't. However, different flatirons work for different hair. Your hair sounds a lot like mine, thick and wavy. Do your research and invest in a good brand and type. Remember, just because it's cheaper doesn't mean it'll do the job. I will also suggest that if you straighten your hair, you straighten it front AND back. One of my friends only straightens his front since he "can't see the back," but the truth is, you don't have to look at your hair to straighten it, that's how simple those irons are! =]
