after you take a shower, part your hair where you normally would and let it air dry or blow dry it. once it's 75-90% dry, section it into four sections. one part should be where your natural part is all the way down to your neck, and the other should be from behind one ear to the other (think of having a + on your head)
french braid each section so that you have four french braids. if you/anyone in your family doesn't know how to french braid, regular braids will do. (french braids are much more effective).
sleep on them overnight making sure they are 110% dry in the morning. as you take out the braids, shake them with your fingers so your hair separates naturally. add a little hair spray or mousse if you hair does not hold curls/waves well.
i used to use this technique all the time. although i found the more damaged my hair was, the less it would hold the waves. at that point i began ironing the braids before i took them out.
give it a try, you'll love the results.
