I can understand brushing my hair, but what is this fad about brushing teeth?

Trivia time:

Up until the 1940's it was VERY common for a family to share ONE toothbrush with bristles of boar (PIG) hair. They rarely bought new toothbrushes because it was a luxury item that cost a lot of money. MMMmmmm it's your turn to brush your teeth.
