Default Any haircare suggestions for black females who work out everyday? Is it safe...

...to wash and condition hair daily? I just started working out four times a week and I noticed if I don't wash and condition my hair afterwards, my hair is really hard and yucky. I was brought up to believe you can't flat iron hair or blow dry hair daily.

I workout everyday also, I teach a exercise and dance class, so i really sweat a lot. I wore my hair in a ponytail for a long time, a nice neat ponytail. I shampooed and conditioned my hair once a week. Even when i was wearing it down, i wore a wrap, something that didn't get to messy.

No it isn't safe to shampoo your hair everyday, it dries it out and causes it to break. Instead of a full shampoo, wash out your hair with warm water to get out the sweat and then condition and when washing that out let a little remain in it to dry in and seal the hair. Do a full shampoo once a week. I can't remember which hair care site I got that from, but I know it works on my hair. Oh, and don't forget to comb through the conditioner before washing it out. Afterwards you can add a light moisturiser and wrap dry it after towel drying. Hope this helps.

No. Too much shampooing will cause your hair to lose it's natural oils. To much conditioning, will cause build up on your hair. You can't apply to your heat daily. this cause our hair to become dry, brittle and break off. Just apply a hair dressing to your hair especially around the hair line area and pull it back while working our.

Well if you have african american hair, it is best not to shampoo it daily also. If you do, your hair will become brittle, dry, and eventually break off. You have natural oils in your scalp that your hair needs to remain strong and give it natural shine. Caucasians have the same thing except you notice that they will shampoo their hair daily because it will start to look "oily" and their hair looks dirty. YOU however need those oils! Like I said, if you do it on a daily basis, you will notice your hair not as resilient or strong. So its the same thing with us all except a different outcome. During this "work out" that you are doing, it is best to go with something that stays up and out of the way... braids, cornrows, etc. You should not flat iron or blow dry your hair on a daily basis either. If you find that your scalp is just sweaty, use some sea brezze on it. Yep, its the astringent. Just like it cleans dirt and oils off your face, it will do so for your scalp. Use a cotton ball and dab it over your scalp. The difference is that you are cleansing your scalp and not drying out your hair. Good Luck!

No, you should not shampoo everyday. You can use conditioner instead of the shampoo or think about going natural (best).

Hi,

I wash my hair twice a week. My hair is long and healthy. After I wash my hair, I spray on a "Leave-In Conditioner" onto my hair (roots and ends), put a little wrapping lotion on it and spray a touch of oil then wrap my wet hair with a scarf then go to bed. In the morning my hair is dry and I have a perfect wrap.

I have always been told that Black Women should wash their hair only once a week or every two weeks. And it may work for some, but Black Hair should really be washed every 4-6 days. Washing it everyday is harmful because it strips it of its essential oils however waiting two weeks to wash it leads to clogged pours.

Please dont flat-iron your hair!!! It doest matter if it is cermanic or not. Flat Irons and heat are BAD and I can not stress that enough. There are alternative ways to getting your hair straight. Blow dryers are bad as flat irons but they are still bad. If you have to use it, keep it at least 6inches from your hair. And always do conditioning repair treatments to help reverse the damanging effects of the heat. I would recommend not useing flat irons at all, and only using blow dryers once a week (if necessary).

Good Luck.
