Default Black African-American Girls' Hair----- Hair Care Question?

What are some basic hair care tips for washing and styling for black little girls? How often do you have to wash it, and what type of product is safe for kids? Do you have to relax it to style or braid it? Or, can you just braid it with the natural curl?

Thanks!

I think once a week is good to wash the hair. After you wash it you should comb it out into four sections (two on the side, Two in the back braided) Go throuh each section part and lightly greas (with hair greas) after you braid each section rebraid it after you have finished a blow dryer with a comb attatchment is what you should use to dry it. Just undo each section one at a time blow dry it and after your done style how ever. They have childrens shampoo at the store make sure you use conditioner and don't use gel. If the hair is not straight enough you can flat iorn. You do not always have to do a relaxer see how managable the hair is afer you wash and blow dry or flat iorn and make your decision. Good luck! If worse comes to worse take them to the beauty shop.

Really it just depends on the child. Its recommended you wash every week to 2 weeks. I wouldn't relax her hair unless you have to, once you start relaxing, you have to keep it up. You could have it braided, but rotate between braiding and natural styles or her hair will break off. Since her hair is naturally curly, you can easily go between braiding and losse styles. As afar as products go, its touch and go since no one person hair responds the same. I recommend "just for me" products or pantene products for women of color. Do make sure she goes to the hairdresser regularly for trimming.
