How do you care for your hair extensions?

Hi, i got hair extensions sewn in my hair 2 wks ago.. The stylist told me the less i wash my hair the better.. I cant stand that.. I have been washing my hair every 4-5 days now.. Is this ok.. Also if i brush it i see so much hair falling out, is this normal.. I now try to comb it in the shower when i have alot of conditioner on... Any tips?
