Yeah, self-tanner is topical, meaning it only colors the outside of your skin and has no SPF in it so it's not preventing your skin from tanning. It won't mess with the color. You may get so tan that you no longer see the color of the self-tanner, depending on the shade of the self-tanning product you are using, but the sun will not interact with the self-tanner at all.
The thing is, though, I definitely wouldn't mess with self tanner. I mean, I've never been extremely pale that I've been embarassed to go out in the sun (but that's cuz im 1/2 italian and 1/2 puerto rican so i tan pretty easily).. but still. just go out there and tan. it only takes one time out on the beach where you need to be pale.
