How do you put on nail polish without messing up?

I always have to get a good supply of nail polish remover because i get the nail polish everywhere. I don;t know how the people at the nail salons do it so perfectly... Do you have any tips?

Be really careful, have a steady hand. Always have Q tips ready to wipe up the polish if you get it on your skin.
